THE EARLY YEARS

  • Founders Alex and Jared met in high school in South Florida.

  • Alex was in a band and promoted local rock shows.

  • Jared was a web designer for local musicians.

  • They began collaborating in 2001 on web & graphic projects.

  • They formed AKT as we know it today in 2005 while attending UCF together in Orlando, Florida.

INITIAL SUCCESS

  • Operated out of their apartments.

  • Built a customer base of friends, friends of friends, & referrals.

  • Clients would ask where to print t-shirts AKT had designed.

    • Initially orders were referred to known print shops.

    • Eventually began outsourcing orders to print shops.

    • Finally decided to build and open a print shop.

  • Brought Alex’s brother, Grant, in as a partner.
